First of all, I am very excited to announce that Megan Opel Interiors is now in business! One year after entertaining the idea,Β beginning coursework to refine my skills, and completingΒ my first handful of freelance projects (thank you, thank you, thank you to the clients who believed in me!), I have taken the plunge. You can find a description of the my services for projects in Chicago and e-design services for long distance projects here.
In the future would love to create a properΒ website for design services but redirecting throughΒ the blog will do for now. I have a lot ofΒ work ahead of me and am still figuring out how to be a one-woman show while simultaneously raising a child and hopefully more children in the future (tips anyone??), but right now it’s crazy and fun and I’m trying to do it all by doing client meetings on nights and weekends and working as fast as I can during naptime. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made in a year and I hope that I can work on a more full-time basis when he and hopefully other children are in school in the future.Β BeingΒ a full-time mom, wife and decorator is what I want to be doing for the rest of my life, so thanks for riding along the journey with me. :)
Now, on to the good stuff. Β Lately,Β I’ve been working one some bathroom remodels for some clients on a budget, soΒ I’ve brainstorming ways to make a big impactΒ for little cost.
For inspiration, I looked back to this adorable bathroomΒ I saw at a cafe in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in Provence.
We all know how clean and chicΒ basic white subway tile is, but when paired with dark grout as opposed to white grout, it becomes totally modern, and statement-making with a touch ofΒ steampunk. Paired with black framed windows, wood accents, black and brassΒ hardware (looks great with cool-tonedΒ hardware too!), the look becomes totally chic and timeless on a small budget. Plus, the dark grout is more forgiving to stains than white grout! Win win.
Here’s an example of how it can look great with polished nickel hardware too:
Looks great in the kitchen too!
