Lately with nursing and taking care of the baby and dog I’ve been so hungry but lack the time I used to have to make meals with several components.
I’ve found that a good hunk of protein like steak or a big chicken breast is the one thing that can power me through the day.
This has quickly become my favorite spice rub for steak. It’s delicious and spicy and adds the right kick of flavor that I need when eating an otherwise simple meal (i.e., maybe just a piece of steak, an apple, and some almonds).
Served with lime wedges or mashed avocado, I think you’ll find that this is a relatively easy dish to prepareΒ for guests.
I’m planning on using the same ratio to makeΒ a big batch of this spice rub for quick and easy seasoning in the future. My family recently handed us down their outdoor grill so there will be plenty more grilling recipes going onΒ over here! :)
Chili Spice-Rubbed Steak
- 1 Β½ tsp chipotle chili powder or crushed chipotle chili
- 1 Β½ tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- Β½ tsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. Kosher salt
- Β½ tsp. ground black pepper
- 1 Β½ lbs. lean cut of steak, such as sirloin, tri-tip, or NY Strip
- Lime wedges, for serving
Let steak come to room temperature and pat dry with a paper towel. Pre-heat an outdoor grill.
Add all spices to a small bowl and mix.
Massage spice rub generously all over steaks.
Grill approximately 4-5 minutes per side or until desired degree of doneness (I like to cook mine to 135-140β° F).
Let rest for several minutes before serving.
Serve steak with lime wedges. Also delicious served with mashed avocado seasoned with salt and pepper.
