Developing my personal style

12/17/2014

Now that we’ve been inΒ our house for almost a year, I finally have a sense for how we truly, unapologetically “live,” i.e., eating dinner at the coffee table on casual nights, letting the dog come on the furniture when she’s invited, drinking wine in the living room, playing on the empty space of the rug with Oliver, and moving Oliver’s bouncy seats around.

I’m pretty happy with my living room furniture arrangement, but I’d love to add more pops of color in the accessories. When we moved into ourΒ house I was so overwhelmed thatΒ I quickly resorted to neutrals, especially gray, ivory, and white. But now I’m starting to go crazy and craving COLOR in my life! If anything, the past year was a lesson in developing my personal style.

I’ve learned I love a really classic traditional glam (think silver, crystal, boxwood, preppy stripes, and mirrored accents)Β marriedΒ withΒ ethnic influences and bright worldly prints (think brightly colored ikat, Spanish and Moroccan tile, Mexican prints, chinoiserie, and painterly accents).

Now that I’m more comfortable with my style, I’m dreaming of infusingΒ the living room with more color. Here’s a little inspirationΒ board of how I’d like the room to feel. I am DROOLINGΒ over this John Robshaw indigo pillow. Santa please? In the meantime, I envision a lot of DIY projects in my future…

One more angle of the bedroom I shared yesterday. One more angle of the bedroom I shared yesterday. We decorated the rest of this client’s home in vibrant blues and purples so I wanted to continue that color story in their main bedroom but in a more muted, calming way. This couple is obviously not afraid of pattern mixing (😍) and it was truly such a joy to hand select fabrics for each element in the room. 🎶
