One of the most important lessons I’ve learned from hosting dinner parties with my mom and sister is to organize like a caterer.
Here’s how you do it in three simple steps:
1. One week before your party, go through your dinnerware to make sure you have enough plates for your guests, and don’t forget about dessert plates! Have a backup plan if you don’t have enough. I like to use largeΒ Chinet paper plates in a pinch for large crowds.
2. Polish your silverware andΒ glasses so that they’re sparkling clean. That way you are notΒ running around like a mad woman the day of your party polishing and tending to the kitchen!
3. Lastly, and most importantly, plan which platters and serving utensils you need for each dish on your menu. Place them on the buffet table from which you will be serving. For fool-proof buffet service, stick a post-it note on each dish so that you and other family members/sous chefs know where every food item goes.
I hope you are inspired to host your own dinner party.Β Cheers!
